A helicopter circled my house Monday. All day.
The loud sound of the blades chopping the air actually started to frustrate me so I set out on the street to see what was going on. I’m curious like that.
Traffic was stopped and Baltimoreans covered the sidewalks. Seeing this many people out on the street is strange and most of the time people are lacking on the street; held up in their long, skinny townhomes built long before my grandparents were born.
A vacant building, which housed a grocery market on its first floor, could be seen smoking through a thin alley. I was in the market only an hour before the fire broke out. Now the market appeared to have gallons of water pouring out of its front doors and its windows blackened or smashed out. None of the firefighters looked alarmed (tired maybe) and some enjoyed getting their picture taken.
I was a little saddened that a part of historical architecture went up in smoke but grateful no one was hurt.
